Introducing OutdoorCompute: Redefining Data Centers with Sustainable Innovation

Co-founded by Nick Hooijberg and Jacques Webers, OutdoorCompute is set to revolutionize the data center industry with their innovative outdoor Micro Data Centers (uDC) and liquid immersion cooling technology. With a mission to tackle the pressing issues of energy inefficiency and environmental impact in traditional data centers, OutdoorCompute offers a solution that enhances both performance and sustainability.

Addressing a Critical Issue: Data Center Sustainability
The rapid growth of AI, big data, and digitalization has led to a surge in demand for large-scale data centers, creating several critical challenges:

  1. Large-scale data centers are costly to produce, making it difficult to meet demand.

  2. They produce environmentally detrimental excessive heat.

  3. High market concentration leads to the growing dominance of large data center companies.

OutdoorCompute addresses these challenges with their innovative outdoor Micro Data Centers (uDC) and liquid immersion cooling technology, which together not only enhance energy efficiency but also repurpose waste heat for infrastructure heating.

Innovative Solution: Liquid Immersion Cooling Technology
OutdoorCompute’s outdoor Micro Data Centers (uDC) offer a versatile and scalable solution for sustainable computing power. These compact, modular units are designed to efficiently manage server heat and optimize space utilization with their small 2m² footprint. The uDCs are integrated with cloud infrastructure for seamless scalability, allowing for effortless addition of server nodes or components as needed.

At the heart of these uDCs is OutdoorCompute’s patented liquid immersion cooling technology. This innovative system submerges data center hardware in a specialized liquid that efficiently conducts heat away from the equipment. The captured waste heat is then transferred to an external water reservoir for repurposing, significantly reducing the overall energy consumption and carbon footprint of data centers.

By repurposing up to 99% of waste heat, this technology ensures both energy efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, the uDCs reduce operational costs by up to 70% and provide local computing power to businesses, addressing latency issues. The stainless steel shell and fortified sensor system ensure data security, with encrypted data transmission and plans for ISO 27001 certification.
