Q&A with Antony Jonkman

Q. Can you tell us about yourself?
A.
My name is Antony Jonkman. I'm a corporate lawyer and have been one for 20 years. I am currently working with Taylor Wessing, a global law firm very much focused on innovation.

Q. What is your role on the advisory board of ASIF Ventures?
A.
I share one advisory board seat with my partner, Marnix Geraerts, who's also a lawyer at Taylor Wessing. Our role, obviously as lawyers, is to look at investments from a legal point of view. But in practice, our role is much broader. We don't necessarily only focus on the legal paperwork but think along in the broadest sense.

Q. How do you see your role on the advisory board contributing to the success of ASIF Ventures?
A.
Well, in the end, as lawyers, the main added value is probably the paperwork, after all. We need to make sure the investment agreements are safe and sound because, ultimately, a proper investment requires proper legal assurance, so to speak.

Q. How do you believe ASIF Ventures supports and adds value to the Amsterdam startup and VC ecosystem?
A.
I believe it can, and probably already is adding a lot of value to the ecosystem. Why? Because innovation is key and a necessity. Things are changing rapidly, especially in the early stages, where it's difficult to find capital. It’s a very good thing that the ASIFs of this world are active and willing to invest.
