Q&A with Saskia Verstege
Q. Can you share a bit about yourself and your background?
A. My name is Saskia Verstege. I was on the ASIF board six years ago, as part of the second board at that time. After ASIF, I started working as the managing director of TechGrounds, a social enterprise focused on re-skilling people into IT. Last year, I got back in touch with the board, and they asked me to join the advisory board with the knowledge I have from the fund. That’s when it started, and now I’m here to help them in the coming years. I’m really excited about that!
Q. What is your role on the advisory board of ASIF Ventures?
A. My role on the advisory board of ASIF is mainly to support the team on organizational, operational, and personal development topics. I also help them set up the team with the fellowships internally and ensure there’s a long-term strategy for the fund.
Q. How do you see your role on the advisory board contributing to the success of ASIF Ventures?
A. I think being a bit younger and having been on the board myself helps me understand how the board members feel, how it can be a bit overwhelming, and how challenging it can be. I also have insight into what’s needed to move forward in complex situations every now and then. Hopefully, that will add value to ASIF.
Q. How do you believe ASIF Ventures supports and adds value to the Amsterdam startup and VC ecosystem?
A. I think ASIF adds a lot of value to the student entrepreneurial ecosystem. It has grown significantly over the past year. ASIF serves as a valuable bridge between student entrepreneurs and the VC ecosystem. It’s hard for student entrepreneurs to make that step themselves, but with ASIF’s network, funding, and events, it’s really an ideal bridge to bring those roles together. I think that’s incredibly valuable for student entrepreneurs.
